What is coaching really?
Beyond technical definitions, coaching can be understood as the art of accompanying people to achieve what they want for themselves.
This idea hides one of the greatest contributions of professional coaching: the deep trust that the other person is capable, sufficient and full of resources.
In this excerpt from our Green Talks, Sergio Blancafort, Academic Director of Green Light GO and Co-Active Coach, names that unique gift that coaching offers to the world: creating the conditions for each person to find their own answers.

Accompanying is not advising
When someone starts a coaching process, they usually do so expecting clear guidance, advice or external solutions. However, as Sergio points out, advising, judging or telling what to do is not part of the essence of coaching.
Accompanying someone to achieve their goals involves:
- Respect and honor their personal judgment.
- Sustain its process without directing or invading it.
- Enhance their autonomy and decision-making capacity.
- Ask questions that broaden your perspective and open up new possibilities.
For this to happen, the coach creates a safe space where the person can think more clearly, connect with what is important to them and make decisions aligned with their values.
Coaching and leadership: leading from trust
The impact of coaching goes beyond achieving a specific goal. Its true value lies in the development of autonomy, confidence and the ability to cope with complexity.
This way of accompanying has a direct impact on leadership. Leaders who integrate coaching competencies are more confident in their teams, foster shared responsibility, and create cultures where learning and autonomy are possible.
Training as a coach: the first step
Beyond being inspiring ideas, coaching skills are trained. In our Co-Active Training Institute (CTI) Co-Active Coaching program, you will learn how to:
- Create relationships based on trust and full listening.
- Accompany people by integrating thought, emotion and action.
- Formulate questions that generate awareness and transformation.
- Strengthen autonomy, responsibility and customer commitment.
- Develop an authentic, effective coaching style aligned with your values.
As exclusive partners in Spain of CTI, one of the most internationally recognized coaching schools, at Green Light GO we offer the complete program and professional certification of Co-Active Coaching in Madrid and Barcelona.
The Co-Active model is accredited by the International Coaching Federation, approved by the Human Resources Professionals Association and awarded a European Quality Award. In addition, the Harvard Institute of Coaching and Harvard Medical School consider it the international gold standard of coach education.
